Quran

The Quran program teaches students from Kindergarten to Year Six the essential skills of learning the Quran such as Qira’ah and Tajweed (Reading), Hifdh (Memorisation) and Muraaj’ah (Revision). Students begin their school day with the Quran, opening their minds and hearts to the words of Allah.

Social and Emotional Learning

Creating and maintaining friendships at school is a very important part of your child’s learning. Children are explicitly taught how to share, be kind and include each other in learning and play. They also learn how to recognise emotions in themselves and others, how to make good choices, how to behave appropriately as a member of a group and how to care for themselves and others. Research has found that children learn best when they are happy and feel safe. Students in years 5 and 6 are also encouraged to become leaders within the school and participate in programs to support them in leading school initiatives and becoming great role models.

7

Health and Physical Education

The students participate in daily fitness lessons and one specialty Physical Education (PE) lesson per week. They learn a variety of fundamental movement skills including: running, dodging, throwing, catching and kicking. They also participate in cooperative games that allow them to practise these skills. We hold annual Swimming lessons, an Athletics carnival and regularly invite specialist organisations to work with the students to develop skills in specific team sports. In Health classes, students learn about growing and changing, how to stay safe and how to make healthy choices.

Project Based Learning

At Taqwa School we provide students with the opportunity to learn through a variety of integrated projects. This simply means that the areas of Humanities and Social Sciences, Science, Health, Information Technology and The Arts are taught together to offer a deeper learning focus. It is during these sessions that students are encouraged to ask questions, work collaboratively, take ownership of their learning goals and apply their new knowledge and skills. We use a range of rich literary texts to enhance learning during these sessions. The work students complete during these sessions is shared with the school and wider community.
