1-Low
 

➢❖ Not completing assigned classwork 

➢❖ Speaking without permission, talking excessively, or disrupting the class (Blurting out or interrupting teacher)

 ➢ ❖ Consuming food or snacks during class time 

➢ ❖ Ignoring or not following teacher instruction/directions. 

Consistently late to class without a valid reason. 

➢❖ Not complying with the school's uniform guidelines 

Entering restricted or off-limits areas without permission. 

Using toilets or accessing areas that are not designated for student use.  

Chewing gum in class, or in school premises 

Engaging in inappropriate behaviour during prayer sessions, assemblies, or while using the restroom. Using electronic devices in a way that goes against the school's guidelines or policies. Engaging in low level inappropriate interactions with students of the opposite gender 

Engaging in minor acts of damaging or defacing school property. 

Is not honest when conveying information.

Issue three verbal warnings to the student  

If the concerned behaviour is repeated more than thrice, do a seat change. 

If the behaviour persists, notify the behaviour coordinator (BC) via email. 

Teacher to notify the parent(s)/guardian of persistent behaviour via email 

1 to 2 times of reflection or 1 to 2 sessions of Community Service will be administered.  If the breach persists, the behaviour coordinator will escalate the case and implement the following. 2 to 3 times of Reflection  

Full day in-school Reflection 

2 to 3 sessions of Community Service (Recess/Lunch)

2-Medium
 

Deliberately throwing objects across the classroom or during recess/lunch. 

➢❖ Behaving in a disruptive manner  

➢❖ Using foul language or inappropriate words

➢❖ Exiting the classroom, assembly, or prayer without permission  

Late to class without valid reasons  

Engaging in argumentative behaviour towards school staff members 

Bringing electronic devices (phones, iPad, tablets) to school without permission.  

Behaving inappropriately (following guidelines0 during school excursions or incursions. Engaging in low level bullying behaviour towards others during school or online 

➢❖ Engaging in acts of deliberately damaging school property  

Spreading false information or rumours about others (gossiping/backbiting)  

Treating a student/staff unfairly based on their race, gender, religion, or other characteristics. Stealing, bribing, or making up false stories and information. 

Violating the privacy of teachers by intruding into their personal space or accessing their personal information.

Issue three verbal warnings to the student  

If the behaviour persists, notify the behaviour coordinator via email. 

BC to administer 2 to 3 times of reflection or 2 to 3 sessions of Community Service 

BC will notify the parent(s)/guardian of persistent behaviour.  

Behaviour Coordinator will arrange a meeting with the parents, attended by the teacher. The following consequences will be administered: 

4 to 5 times of Reflection  

Two full days of in-school Reflection 

3 to 5 sessions of Community Service (Recess/Lunch) 

If the breach persists, the behaviour coordinator will escalate the case and implement the following. Arrange another meeting with the parents and assign an appropriate consequence to the student. A Behaviour contract will be created for the student and signed by parent(s)/guardians, behaviour  coordinator/principal

3- High
 

Engaging in or taking part in physically aggressive contact. 

Making suggestive or inappropriate gestures either verbally or physically. 

Displaying inappropriate behaviour or aggression towards a member of the staff. 

Accessing or sharing inappropriate content online. 

Engaging in an act that is inappropriate or indecent. 

Encouraging or provoking violence or aggression. 

Engaging in severe acts of vandalism. 

Engaging in serious bullying (all forms) or cyberbullying behaviour 

Entering restrooms designated for the opposite gender. 

Having inappropriate material (e.g., magazines, books, notes) in one's possession. 

Exiting the school premises without proper authorization. 

Engaging in harassing behaviour through spoken or written words. 

Engaging in physical contact that is inappropriate or unwarranted. 

Participating in severe physical fights  

Engaging in significant instances of improper interaction with individuals of the opposite or same gender. Having dangerous items in one's possession. 

Being in possession of hazardous substances. 

Physically attacking or assaulting a staff member.

Teachers to notify behaviour coordinator immediately.  

The Behaviour Coordinator will schedule a meeting with the parents to discuss the situation and administer a  suitable consequence. 

A Behaviour contract will be created for the student and signed by parent(s)/guardians, behaviour  coordinator/principal. 

If behaviour persists, the Behaviour Coordinator will organize a subsequent meeting with the parents to address  the issue and impose a more severe consequence on the student. 

2 to 5 days of suspension. 

Note: Suspension for up to 20 days per year. A suspension must not start immediately after  another suspension ends. 

Student to be referred to school counsellor and Imam 

“The decision-maker for an independent school may expel a student at the school if satisfied— (a) the student  has engaged in unsafe or noncompliant behaviour; and (b) the school has exhausted all reasonable alternatives  to expelling the student; and (c) it is not in the best interests of 1 or more of the following for the student to  remain at the school it is reasonable to expel the student considering all the circumstances, including any views  of the student and their parents about the proposed expulsion.” (Reference: Amendment of Education Act 2004  2022)

 

Restorative justice approach will be implemented in Levels 1-3. It is a proactive and relational approach to resolving conflicts and addressing behaviour issues. It focuses on repairing harm, restoring relationships, and fostering a sense of responsibility and accountability.  

Note: Non-compliant student behaviour that does not improve after the following steps have been taken in Levels 1-3 will be referred to the counsellor.
